Blind Willow Sleeping Woman

Blind Willow Sleeping Woman

" Your work is an act of love, not a marriage of convenience"

This is first Murakami's book I read in 2014. Found that in local bookshop with affordable price, I do not hesitate to bought it and add to my collections.

Blind Willow Sleeping Woman is collection of short stories which written by Murakami in length of year 1980-2005. Actually this is my first time reading short story from my favorite writer, Murakami.

Well, what can we expect from a Murakami? Even a short story could be a very weightfull read. There is no simple plot line, it will made your mind hang on the air in the end. When it is happen to be a simple plot line, the characters are not.

Considering Murakami's protagonist history, almost 24 stories inside is telling about unusual Man whom think his life way too deep. Some stories are describing as Murakami hisself. Yup Murakami as writer.

The story open about Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman. A story about first person narrator whom have a half deaf cousin. He is unoccasionally shall take his cousin to the hospital for check up. Their short trip in fact made the storyy so content. Murakami leave the conventional way to telling the story. Leave the introduction-warm up-conflict- climax- anti climax- ending. Nope, there is no climax, almost no conflicts, but somehow his brilliance success made my eyes stick to the story. The way he told, the way he's narrating, the way he's wandering arround is awesome. I guess murakami is Mr of Daydreaming.

One of 24 stories in this book I love the most is about Hanalei Bay, oke one more Tony Takitani also. Both are the most convincing story line above others. Hanalei Bay is story about a single mother who lost his the one and only son to a shark in Hanelei Bay. The woman know nothing about mourning, all she can do is visiting hawaii every year to celebrate her son anniversary of death.

Tony Takitani is story about a man who lost his shopaholic wife. From what I read in Wikipedia, this story is brought to the cinema. Well, a short story become a cinema? *applausing*

Overall, Murakami is still murakami in this book. The surreal character of his seems never leave him, but it get darker and darker. I guess he is the only writer that I followed since his story is mostly unreal.

Not my favorite book, but really worth to read.

Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

Strange Weather in Tokyo Tsukiko, thirty-eight, works in an office and lives alone. One night, she happens to meet one of her former high school teachers, "Sensei," in a local bar. Tsukiko had only ever called him "Sensei" ("Teacher"). He is thirty years her senior, retired, and presumably a widower. Their relationship develops from a perfunctory acknowledgment of each other as they eat and drink alone at the bar, to a hesitant intimacy which tilts awkwardly and poignantly into love. As Tsukiko and Sensei grow to know and love one another, time's passing is marked by Kawakami's gentle hints at the changing seasons: from warm sake to chilled beer, from the buds on the trees to the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Strange Weather in Tokyo is a moving, funny, and immersive tale of modern Japan and old-fashioned romance.  **** Strange Weather in Tokyo Author : Hiromi Kawakami Translator : Allison Markin Powell Published
