When We Were Very Young by A.A Milne

When We Were Very Young
Author : A.A Milne
First published in 1924
Language :  English

I got the reference of this book from the blog I read (which I forget the address). This book is kinda a gift from her ex-boy friend to her when they are separated.

Well, to find this book in Indonesia is quite a journey. I know it has been reprinted in 2009 but still i can't found it in any bookstore. Then, I decide to buy the second-handed book from betterworldbook.

This book contents of  51 poems about childhood and I should admit that all poems are very heartwarming and fun. Each poem bring back memories, happiness and laughter, and sometimes surprisingly satire.

The most interesting thing is at 38th Poem, Teddy Bear was the first appearance of the famous character Winnie-the-Pooh, first named "Mr. Edward Bear" by Christopher Robin Milne. In one of the illustrations of "Teddy Bear", Winnie-the-Pooh is shown wearing a shirt which was later coloured red when reproduced on a recording produced by Stephen Slesinger (excerpt from Wikipedia).

I recommend this book to anyone whom love a happy theme and childhood of course. Below I give one of my favorite poem, Politeness

Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

Strange Weather in Tokyo Tsukiko, thirty-eight, works in an office and lives alone. One night, she happens to meet one of her former high school teachers, "Sensei," in a local bar. Tsukiko had only ever called him "Sensei" ("Teacher"). He is thirty years her senior, retired, and presumably a widower. Their relationship develops from a perfunctory acknowledgment of each other as they eat and drink alone at the bar, to a hesitant intimacy which tilts awkwardly and poignantly into love. As Tsukiko and Sensei grow to know and love one another, time's passing is marked by Kawakami's gentle hints at the changing seasons: from warm sake to chilled beer, from the buds on the trees to the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Strange Weather in Tokyo is a moving, funny, and immersive tale of modern Japan and old-fashioned romance.  **** Strange Weather in Tokyo Author : Hiromi Kawakami Translator : Allison Markin Powell Published
