The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (#1)

The Rosie Project

The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, who’s decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things, he designs the Wife Project to find his perfect partner: a sixteen-page, scientifically valid survey to filter out the drinkers, the smokers, the late arrivers.

Rosie Jarman possesses all these qualities. Don easily disqualifies her as a candidate for The Wife Project (even if she is “quite intelligent for a barmaid”). But Don is intrigued by Rosie’s own quest to identify her biological father. When an unlikely relationship develops as they collaborate on The Father Project, Don is forced to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie―and the realization that, despite your best scientific efforts, you don’t find love, it finds you.

Imagine, if Sheldon Cooper (from Big Bang Theory) falling in love to Penny-Educated smart version of Penny? Sounds cliche? No,if the Author is Graeme Simsion.

The Rosie Project is one kind of book that really hard to put off. Right from the start, the reader will be drawn to the mind maze of Don Tillman, a smart (of course!) professor with his inability to respond 'standardly' in social life. His circle of life is very limited to several peoples: a dead sister, an Alzheimer neighbor, and an odd psychology professor, Gene who believe to open marriage along with Gene's wife.

Don Tillman is forty-something years old. In his age, he wanted to find a long life partner. He tried dating apps, meet a woman introduced by Gene's Wife or subscribe to local dating event, but He never found the right partner.

Suddenly,  he was inspired; how if finding a partner can be solved scientifically? He started with sort out criteria and put it in questionnaires. He asked Gene to distribute it to potential women.

Then, suddenly, here comes Rosie, a red hair, eccentric, beautiful woman, to Don's office. Don assume Rosie is one of the candidate which sent by Gene. They set up the date and meet later.

But meeting Rosie is out of ordinary for Don. She messed up Don's schedule, she only eats sustainable meals, and she is way too outspoken - against all the Don's criteria.

However, the beautiful Rosie draw Don into her world, Rosie is seeking for his father and coincidentally, Don might able to help Rosie.

Hesitant, Don finally tries to help Rosie to find her father, or Rosie Project. But they are two opposite magnet that frequently causing a bad blood. Rosie is a bartender, so far with Don's intelligent standard, even Rosie show her brilliance against her background.

The Rosie Project is exciting and tiresome for Don. Don must lie, create a scheme and ethically threatened by helping Rosie. Rosie also is hard to handle, she's mood swing and stubborn.

So many obstacles, but can Don falling in love to Rosie? Because Don isn't capable of feel something against human nature. He's so logical, and barely feel joyful or sad. Meanwhile, Rosie is all about feeling.

Don character is meticulous and logical, but deep down he's loyal and very nice human being. It is very easy to falling in love with the character because he's simply hilarious. But, his inability to feel made him put logics above everthing. For example, when one of his students, Kevin caught cheating several times, Don request him to be expelled because it is based on the regulation.  Meanwhile, Dean has asked him to reconsider because Kevin's background.

And thru this book, I am aware that sometimes, human's brain work differently. Don may seem unsympathetic but it is how his brain work. In society, we will just exclude Don from our group, not aware of his Asperger syndrome.

Coincidently, the author has strong education background and conducted some research while he wrote the book. That's why this book is legit and smart!

I really like this book and should be adapted to the Movie, soon!

The Trial (Der Prozess) by Franz Kafka

Courtesy : wikipedia.org The Trial (Der Prozess) Author : Franz Kafka Year Published : 1925 Origin Language : Germany “I only fear danger where I want to fear it. ” Excerpt From: Kafka, Franz. “The Trial.”  Don't judge me as an avid fans of classics. No, I am not. I am reading almost anything in which I leaded into. For me, reading books is like a meet a destined lover , a serendy pity. My leaded way into The Trial is of course because of Haruki Murakami. Haruki is one of biggest fans of Kafka's litteratures. Later, after reading the trial, i also find the similiarities between The Trial with Albert Camus's the Strangers, If you are fans of Kafka's, you will not dissapointed to Camus.   Just like its title, the Trial is story about Josef K, a chief financial officer of a bank whom struggle with a trial.  On his thirtieth birthday,  Josef K. is unexpectedly arrested by two unidentified agents from an unspecified agency for an ...
