One Day in December by Josie Silver

One Day in December
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away.

Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It's Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

How you pick a book for next read?
As for me, it is depending on my circumstances. If I'm on the trip, I usually pick light reading book, or if i need to dive deep in humanity, i will read Japanese Book.
One Day in December is one of the book that perfectly fit for in the flight read- not only because of the weight but also the story. It is remind me of the glorious day of chicklit, even nowadays i haven't read one.

This book is about a serendipity. Laurie, the protagonist fall in love to a boy in the bus, at the first sight, one day in December. But Laurie didn't have the courage to introduce herself, the boy just left, no chance for Laurie to know his name or phone number.

The thing is, Laurie is idealist in the term of love, or easy to say loyal and helplessly romantics. She tries to search the boy whenever she go. She remember perfectly how the boy look alike and won't easily mistaken with other man.

Meanwhile, Laurie life hasn't a change a bit since she graduated from college. She is living with her good-looking,sweet best friend, Sarah, and her career is going nowhere. Meanwhile Sarah has landed a prestigious job that promised her a future.

Several years later, Laurie met with the boy she felt in love with, Jack, but under very different circumstances. Jack is the boy that Sarah in love  and infatuation with.

Shattered, but Laurie know her position, she won't tell Sarah, because Laurie love Sarah more than mere boy. But, It is very hard to stay away from them since Sarah insists they need to be close together.

The story is told from Laurie and Jack's point of view, even though  Laurie held the biggest portions.

Laurie is the quirky, smart and sweet girl. Jack is handsome..er...i don't remember his character well instead of handsome, but is it matter?Meanwhile Sarah is gorgeous party girl that know her power very well but not being snoob about it.

The chemistry between Laurie and Sarah is very sweet, you know when you read it, you really lucky have a best friend like that, no rival (except for Jack-if i might say it). Laurie and Jack is destined to be together since the beginning but so many obstacles and mood swings, it's long story but not quite dragging.

The exchange joke and quirky thought between Laurie and Sarah or Jack is what i love the most about this book. And surprisingly, this is Josie Silver's first book and Reese Witherspoon recommended this book!Waw!

"I know how painful it can be letting someone you think you love go, but that I don’t believe there’s only one person in the world for each of us. It’s too fanciful, too limiting."
For debut, this book is brilliantly written, witty and romantic. There is nothing about the richie meet the poorie, it is just story of londoners that falling in love randomly, to a person in a wrong time.
“Despite the fairy-tale snowstorm out there, this isn’t Narnia. This is London, real life, where hearts get kicked and bruised and broken, but somehow they still keep beating.”
I recommend this book to anyone who want to reminisce the sweet and bitter taste of love :)

Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

Strange Weather in Tokyo Tsukiko, thirty-eight, works in an office and lives alone. One night, she happens to meet one of her former high school teachers, "Sensei," in a local bar. Tsukiko had only ever called him "Sensei" ("Teacher"). He is thirty years her senior, retired, and presumably a widower. Their relationship develops from a perfunctory acknowledgment of each other as they eat and drink alone at the bar, to a hesitant intimacy which tilts awkwardly and poignantly into love. As Tsukiko and Sensei grow to know and love one another, time's passing is marked by Kawakami's gentle hints at the changing seasons: from warm sake to chilled beer, from the buds on the trees to the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Strange Weather in Tokyo is a moving, funny, and immersive tale of modern Japan and old-fashioned romance.  **** Strange Weather in Tokyo Author : Hiromi Kawakami Translator : Allison Markin Powell Published
