" There aren't any real strong people anywhere. Only people who can put on a good show of being strong"

Hear the Wind Sing is first novel of the famous Japanese Author, Haruki Murakami.

Having decided that Murakami is my favorite author ever, I tried to trace back his first novel and enjoyed the time when his writing not yet matured enough.

Hear the Wind Sing is the first book of trilogy of the Rat series.

Brought back in 70's, the story telling about a boy whom spend his summer holiday in his hometown (he is a college student). The story narrated from the first point of view of 21 years old unnamed boy.

Don't imagine it like Less than Zero novel where the boy spend the days doing drug and sex. The story is flowing smooth (not really wild) where the boy spend his days sitting on a local bar that he usually went on daily basis to met his best friend.

When he is fail to meet his friend in bar, he usually only sit and observe his surrounding, about people, song, or anything else. One day he met a girl whom only have 9 fingers. Like any other Murakami's character, the girl is having troubled personality. She worked at the music store (another typical of Murakami) and at first denied to get close with the boy.

Because it is novella and have a very thin page, I can't spoil all the story in here. Overall the story line is so simple yet 'the contemplation part' is not. Even the writing style of Haruki is recognized from his very first time novel. The same protagonist character (quirky), the daydreaming- thinking, the classical music, and literature-freak part is always be the identity of Haruki Murakami.

But once again, even it is simple and thin, but Murakami always success to delivery the beautiful of human mind map.

The Trial (Der Prozess) by Franz Kafka

Courtesy : wikipedia.org The Trial (Der Prozess) Author : Franz Kafka Year Published : 1925 Origin Language : Germany “I only fear danger where I want to fear it. ” Excerpt From: Kafka, Franz. “The Trial.”  Don't judge me as an avid fans of classics. No, I am not. I am reading almost anything in which I leaded into. For me, reading books is like a meet a destined lover , a serendy pity. My leaded way into The Trial is of course because of Haruki Murakami. Haruki is one of biggest fans of Kafka's litteratures. Later, after reading the trial, i also find the similiarities between The Trial with Albert Camus's the Strangers, If you are fans of Kafka's, you will not dissapointed to Camus.   Just like its title, the Trial is story about Josef K, a chief financial officer of a bank whom struggle with a trial.  On his thirtieth birthday,  Josef K. is unexpectedly arrested by two unidentified agents from an unspecified agency for an ...

Wedding People by Alison Espach

Softcover version It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe and Phoebe's plan—which makes it that much more surprising when the two women can’t stop confiding in each other. **** The Wedding People Author : Alison Espach Published year : 2024 Pages: 384 Language : English Genre : Literary Fiction, Fiction, Romance Age recommendation: 21...
